Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.



Support local and divisional process engineering initiatives by developing and championing change management, prototyping, advanced manufacturing technologies and cost reduction projects. Establish process competencies for all Broadband, Wireless, and Microwave product lines.



Responsibilities:



+ Process and Project Engineering: Responsible for product integrity for all products through approval of Engineering Change Requests for any products moving into manufacturing from Technology or process and product changes proposed by Manufacturing

+ Understand and develop capabilities in key processes

+ Where applicable, ensure consistency of these processes globally

+ Develop strategies to improve critical processes and capabilities

+ Understand and deploy advanced manufacturing technologies, as appropriate, in support of the overall product strategy

+ Establish a high level of capability for the application of Product Quality Architecture and utilize to improve product quality and process first pass yields

+ Ensure consistency in control systems with Corning's IMS strategy and ensure product attributes are delivered

+ Ensure involvement with early stage development to ensure integration of PQA elements and the development of fundamental process understanding

+ Identify and drive design and process cost reduction processes, ensuring adherence to the Stage Gate and DMAIC methodologies

+ Develop core competencies within the group for various engineering disciplines to include: Machining, Plating, Assembly, Hermetic Sealing and advanced manufacturing technology

+ Establish department budget and manage spending to ensure adherence to the budget



New Product Transfer and Acceptance:



+ Deliver new products and processes to manufacturing. Ensure successful Global Product Transfers from Technology to Manufacturing

+ Provide leadership for the transfer of new products into manufacturing to ensure a smooth transition into manufacturing and capacity ramp up



TPM/Maintenance:



+ Responsible for the Global Tooling and TPM Maintenance organizations

+ Sets TPM strategy and insures successful implementation

+ Provides facility maintenance support to the Glendale organization Leads Global TPM strategy and implementation



Complex decisions:



+ Complex planning and decision making is required to manage limited resources to enable a broad range of projects to be managed and supported

+ Must provide high level direction to the organization to ensure commitments are met

+ To manage product integrity, deep understanding of product attributes and how these are affected by the process and design changes is required



Talent Management:



+ Develop Plant Engineering department staff to allow them to achieve their full potential while achieving personal, department, and plant objectives and initiatives

+ Develop organizational skills and competencies through staff selection, performance management, people development, recognition, trainee programs, training and education

+ Manage employee performance through clearly communicated expectations and evaluating their performance against specific, measured objectives

+ Recognize excellence in a concrete fashion when it occurs



Travel Requirements (please note if international):



+ As required, generally less than 15% Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

+ Flex-time applicable Off-hours may be required to attend meetings or as production or engineering related issues occur to support 24/7 manufacturing operations



Required Education:



+ BS in Engineering, Master's degree in Engineering is preferred

+ Significant engineering systems experience in a manufacturing environment required when degree is outside of ME and EE



Required Years and Area of Experience:



+ 5-7 years of engineering experience in support of a manufacturing environment

+ 5-7 years of engineering supervision and/or manufacturing department management



Required Skills:



+ Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities

+ Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills

+ Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others

+ Strong project management skills Change management driver

+ Strong fundamental understanding of the Microsoft Office suite is essential



Desired Skills:



+ Knowledge of computer and networking systems. Basic knowledge of Spanish
